We all want great health. But if you don't have it right now you might be asking yourself, "How come I'm not motivated to get it?" We've all been there. You start going to the gym and then you stop. You start eating a better diet for you and then you stop. You start walking around the block after dinner and then you stop. What's going on? People fail to achieve health because they try to tend to the body without tending to the mind first. The truth is, health is all in your head. Our actions follow our thoughts. Our thoughts follow the mental programming in our minds.
Do you have a clear vision of you fitting into your favorite jeans again? Do you see yourself hiking and enjoying life effortlessly? Or do you only wish you could do those things? Until your new mental image gets strong enough and clear to carry you through the transition of changing your habits your actions will likely peter out. You will revert back to your current, really-practiced mental image of yourself (the one that isn't as healthy or in shape as you want it to be). How To Build Your Mental Muscles There are many ways to build your mental muscles and practice a new image of yourself. Visualization is one. My favorite is scripting. Scripting Get paper, any paper. Write one page a day about what you want as if it were already true. For example, even if you are not wearing your favorite jeans yet you can start writing a page like this: "I am sitting here writing and I'm wearing my favorite jeans. It feels so great to have them on again. I love how I look and I love how I feel. I'm so proud of myself." It may feel awkward or uncomfortable to write at first. If you are new at this the first few days or weeks of this may feel awkward. But if you keep persisting with the goal that you feel better by the end of each page no matter how well it was written… ….and you keep writing one page every day…. You will find that after just 30 days your mental image will have shifted so much that new actions will start to inspire you. The trick then, becomes to listen to those message and to say "Yes" to them. True Story After scripting for 30 days (and then promptly forgetting about it and not remembering about the journal until I was 39 lbs lighter later that year) I heard a message one day the following month that said, "Go gluten-free." So I did. What followed was a series of inspired actions and follow-through that was unstoppable because my mental image had completely changed. Gone was the on-again-off-again exercise and dieting of the past. The rest is history and I sit here right now fitting into my favorite jeans once more. It Works For You, Too Whatever messages you start to get that are right for you whether they be "go gluten free" or "drink more water" or "take a walk", if you script for 30 days you will receive messages and you will be inspired to answer them. That is the key to getting healthy easily: inspired action is action that is done, easily. And it can't be any easier that starting at home with just a pen and a piece of paper, can it? :) Here's to your health! Comments are closed.
